PrimeBEE
Researchers at University of Helsinki have developed a vaccine for honey bees against bacterial diseases. Present proof-of-concept has been made with American foulbrood, but protections against other bacterial and fungal diseases are in development. The vaccination is based on an environmentally safe and edible formulation and will be easy to use by any beekeeper without extra training. International patent application is pending on the formulation, mechanism and vaccinated animals. Unlike presently used solutions, antibiotics and burning of the hives, the vaccine is a preventive method to tackle the diseases.
