The core task of the EG DU is to ensure integrated urban development in a planned manner for the districts of Duisburg that have the greatest need due to different problem situations. Through its contribution to improving the housing and living situation in the disadvantaged districts, the economic and social situation of the residents can also be positively influenced in the long term.
With more than twenty years of experience in urban district work, the EG DU works on behalf of the City of Duisburg and implements the integrated urban development concepts (IUDC) that it has been instrumental in developing.
Although the problem situations in the disadvantaged neighbourhoods can be traced back to similar causes, such as structural change in the Ruhr region and the associated loss of jobs, the concrete effects are different in each neighbourhood. Therefore, measures to improve the living situation must be defined individually for each district. The focus can be on urban development, social, intercultural or economic aspects.
