AES - Advanced energy storage from EVs
We have done breakthrough work at Aalto University in machine learning solutions for profitably exploiting electric vehicle batteries as temporary energy storages in conjunction with local solar installations. The combination of these technologies will result in market disruption and our technology supports players in the new environment who need to predict uncertain driver behavior, electricity consumption and hourly electricity market prices, especially Fingrid FCR (Frequency containtment reserves) prices.
This technology arises from the combination of two PhD projects. The first one focusses on using electric vehicle batteries as temporary electricity storages in conjunction with local solar generation, with deep understanding of control technology and battery behavior. The second PhD focusses on software services to exploit energy resources on FCR markets and in using machine learning to make the predictions for profitable trading on the markets. The technology has been developed at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation of Aalto University, and it has now achieved readiness for commercialization.
