How it started
Although Boardio is a global service, we rely on some of the good characteristics of the Nordics — we are originally from Finland — as we believe these make a good foundation for successful business in any country.
2009
Tuomo, while working at Nokia, had the idea to help growth companies access expertise. No services existed to connect advisors with companies — so he left Nokia to build one. He sent this email to his colleagues before leaving:
"In this new service (called Abonnet = Advisory Board on Net) small and medium sized companies can get a group of people to act as advisors to help in new market entry, finding new partners, providing information on competitors etc. — basically to help in any operative or strategic issue company may have."
2013
We realised the biggest value we could provide was helping companies find skilled individuals. We simplified the product, removed video meetings and document sharing — and renamed the service Boardio.
2020
We introduced the Company Turnkey service — the backbone of our offering today. We find suitable advisors and only charge if the company starts working with one we found.
2022
We started hiring local Country Managers to run Boardio in their regions. Global platform with local service — a model that works well.
Today
With 11,000+ advisors around the globe, hundreds of successful searches, and a network of ~30 local representatives, we are a unique source of skills, experience, and networks for any growth-oriented company. The vision Tuomo had in 2009 has finally become reality.
