John Apostle is a high energy, seasoned senior executive with more than 30 years of experience in the financial services, investments, and insurance industry. During my 20+ year career at Genworth Financial Inc., a Fortune 500, NYSE-listed financial services firm, I oversaw the compliance operations of multiple business platforms across 26 countries. As a result, I developed a deep understanding of the regulatory framework for transnational enterprises and gained insights and skills necessary to assess and resolve various operational issues to better align with the firm%27s strategic imperatives.
As a member of Genworth’s Senior Executive Committee, I regularly met with the firm’s Board of Directors and its various committees to discuss data security and compliance issues, operational risks, emerging regulatory requirements, internal investigations, best practices, and Compliance Program initiatives, priorities, and effectiveness, among other issues. In conjunction with the firm’s proposed merger with China Oceanwide Holdings Group Co., Ltd., I was approved by the U.S. Departments of Justice and Treasury to serve as the firm’s National Security Officer responsible for protecting the data of more than 25 million Americans.
Most recently, I served as the General Counsel for Ygrene Energy Fund Inc., a privately held firm that provides funding for energy efficiency and environmental resiliency property improvements. While at Ygrene, I assisted the Board with successfully resolving several outstanding regulatory matters (state and federal), successfully completing its Series C funding, and restructuring the firm’s operations.
I am also active in several industry groups. I was a founding member of the Board of Directors and past Chairperson of the Compliance and Ethics Forum for Life Insurers (CEFLI), an association that serves the needs of the life insurance industry%27s compliance and ethics professionals. I also served on various committees of the Financial Services Roundtable and the American Council of Life Insurers, including serving as Chair of the Annuity Suitability Working Group. In my adopted hometown of Richmond, Virginia, I am devoted to Homeward, the planning and coordinating organization for homeless services that seeks to prevent and end homelessness in Central Virginia. I served several terms on its Board of Directors and am Chair Emeritus.
John and his wife Barbara relocated to the South Carolina Lowcountry in 2021 and are enjoying getting to know their new community. They have two adult children and a retriever who is certain she is their third child.
