John Anastasiadis is a MedTech innovation executive with more than 25 years of experience leading human factors and design at global medical device companies. He currently heads Human Factors and Design at Smith+Nephew, leading a global team across surgical robotics, orthopedics, sports medicine, advanced wound care, and connected digital health platforms. He is accountable for product experience, usability, regulatory compliance, and design quality across a multibillion-dollar portfolio.
A named inventor on 24 patents, John has a proven track record of translating complex hardware–software systems from concept through commercialization. His work includes award-winning products such as the CORI Robotic Surgical System (2023 DMI Design Value Award, First Place) and Renasys EDGE (2024 Red Dot Award).
John brings deep expertise in regulated product development and risk management, including FDA human factors guidance, IEC 62366-1, and global regulatory frameworks such as China’s NMPA. He provides boards and investors with informed oversight of product safety, usability risk, and design validation strategy.
Prior to Smith+Nephew, he held senior leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson, where he helped establish the Industrial Design and Human Factors Center of Excellence and led innovation initiatives across J&J MedTech, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, and DePuy Synthes. He also served as Chair of the IDSA Medical Section (2020–2023), contributing to governance and strategic direction for the profession.
John holds an MBA from Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business and a Bachelor of Industrial Design with Honors from Pratt Institute. He is a member of the Design Management Institute, IDSA, and the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society. He is currently available for advisory board and independent director roles with MedTech startups and investment-backed healthcare companies.
