João has a degree in Civil Engineering from IST, an MBA from Wharton Business School and Universidade Nova de Lisboa and postgraduate degrees from Harvard Business School. He spent much of his youth in Cambridge (UK)
He has an extensive career in Senior Management Consulting as a Senior Partner at Berger, and as
President for Spain and Portugal at AT Kearney, where he tripled the company´s business, climbing from #5 to #2 in the market. He has specialized in strategic, organizational and governance development programs as well as M&A actions with large and medium-sized family businesses, holding positions of Non-Executive Director or Senior Advisor with selected family groups.
He has a close personal and professional relationship with reference Shareholders of the vast majority of the 50 largest Portuguese business groups, in addition to a wide range of personal relationships with prominent national personalities in the areas of business management, auditing, commercial and investment banking, law, corporate communication, Private Equity and social communication.
His experience covers a wide range of sectors of activity in Portugal, Spain and Latin America, having advised clients such as Grupo Amorim, Grupo Sonae, Embraer Brazil, Shell Corporation UK, EDP Renováveis, Galp Energia, Galp España, Repsol España, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Banco Comercial Portuguese, Banco Espírito Santo, ANA, AENA, TAP, Mota Engil, Obrascón Huarte Lain, Grupo Mondragón, Portucel, SECIL, NORS, Arsopi, Central de Cervejas, Super Bock Group, Coca Cola Iberia, Sumol Compal, Nutricafés and Parque Expo 98, among others. He supported most of these corporations in strategy and organisation, enabling for most o his clients a doubling of size in 3 to 5 years.
He is a regular columnist in several Portuguese media outlets (NOVO, SAPO and Diário de Notícias) on business development in general and family business in particular. At the same time, he has often been asked to participate as a speaker in seminars, conferences, and academic program sessions.
In September 2024, he published his first book, %2244250 passo até ao Cume%22, focused on lessons to help large and medium-sized national companies unleash their potential with the inspiration of the best practices that reached the top, national and international.
His education and international career allowed him to master Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and Italian equally, and at a more incipient stage Greek.
