Jim Marrone

I’m a scientist and economist with an unusually interdisciplinary background spanning technology, national security, public policy, and arts & culture. I’ve led causal inference, experimentation, AI/ML measurement, and research programs at Amazon and RAND, while also conducting research and teaching in the arts and social sciences.

I’m most valuable to organizations tackling complex data problems or impact evaluations where technology, strategy, and implementation intersect. I help leaders determine what is actually working, design rigorous experiments and evaluation frameworks, assess AI/ML systems, and translate complex evidence into strategic and business decisions.

I’m particularly interested in advising mission-driven and technology startups in national security/defense, civic and democracy technology, arts and culture, and other sectors where interdisciplinary thinking can provide an advantage. I bring both deep technical expertise and the ability to work across scientific, business, policy, and creative domains.
