About
My background is primarily in emerging markets, particularly the EECA region. However, my technical expertise and diverse experience enable me to contribute effectively across global markets, including MENA, Africa, Asia, and LATAM. I am also aware that European banks, including Belgian financial institutions, frequently invest in emerging markets through dedicated or allocated funds. Given this, I believe my expertise is highly relevant and transferable to the Western financial sector, where insights into emerging markets and strategic investment allocation can add significant value.
Here are a few areas where I believe I can contribute effectively as an active board member/advisor:
1. Extensive Technical Expertise in Financial Institutions
With over 20 years of experience managing projects and financial institutions locally and internationally, I offer comprehensive expertise in the sector. My skills include designing and implementing lending products, managing risk, and fostering financial inclusion, all critical components of advancing strategic goals for financial institutions. I have contributed to EBRD downscaling projects across Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan. Additionally, I have held executive roles at FINCA International in countries like Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kosovo, and Kyrgyzstan. My consultancy engagements have included projects with UNDP, the World Bank, and European funds in Turkmenistan, Romania, and Moldova.
2. Proven Corporate Governance Leadership
With over a decade of experience in board mandates, I have served on the boards of 10 financial organizations. I bring deep expertise in corporate governance, strategic planning, and oversight, combined with a practical approach to driving accountability and transparency. Through collaborations with IFC, I successfully initiated and completed corporate governance technical assistance projects for two of my current Board seats. These initiatives aligned with global best practices and served the interests of all stakeholders. I have chaired several board committees, providing strategic leadership, and as a member of Chapter Zero Uzbekistan (a global Climate Governance Initiative), I actively support non-executive directors in addressing climate risks and sustainability challenges in governance.
3. Strong Network in EECA
I have built a robust network across the EECA region, including connections with EBRD, IFC, the World Bank, EIB, Proparco, USAID, European privately-owned funds, and investment management companies. My relationships with local agencies—such as Ministries of Finance, Central Banks, and financial institutions—enable me to foster strategic partnerships and strengthen collaboration within the region.
4. Access to Global Financial Investors
My established relationships with international institutions and impact investors enable me to facilitate access to funding and resources vital for scaling financial institutions’ operations. With 28 years of experience, my journey spans operational roles, investor representation, and board positions. After working on EBRD’s downscaling projects and holding executive roles at FINCA International, I joined Incofin Investment Management, where I developed and managed investments in the EECA and MENA regions while leading a team of investment managers. This dual perspective gives me a comprehensive understanding of the sector, allowing me to bridge gaps and drive impactful collaborations.
5. Commitment to Diversity and Gender Balance
I am a strong advocate for gender equity and diversity and strive to help financial institutions integrate these principles into their strategies, ensuring alignment with global standards for inclusive growth.
