About
I am an accomplished CFO and controller for public and private firms. I Have strengthened reporting and profits. Have reduced external audit fees. Have accomplished cost savings and increased effectiveness of the finance/accounting departments.
Additionally, I have been a University Professor and have taught over 250 MBA students (some international students others were Military Officers) Financial Strategy, Marketing, and of course Accounting and Finance. I have both an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in Business and Public Policy. I have also taught lower-division students primarily in accounting.
I have served on boards (as both a voting member and as a management liaison) in both the for-profit and not-for-profit arenas.
Management Liaison: San Gabriel River Improvement Co. a property ownership company founded in 1906. The company had both private individuals and two large not-for-profit foundations as shareholders. Each holding about half of the firm’s equity. As CFO and Corporate Secretary, I was a non-voting participant at all meetings acting either as the CFO or the Corporation’s Secretary. As financial advisor to the board, I developed a plan that, when subsequently implemented, yielded a 300% return on the shareholder’s value.
Active Board Member of for-profit companies: Provided the board with financial and business advice. Fantech a Start-up Manufacturing company that became quite profitable repaying all the original investors within three years. X-Arm, Inc. is an entertainment company that was not successful in the marketplace and liquidated in an orderly process.
Active Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA) Planning Committee. This special committee was responsible for developing the growth plan which changed the Institute from a domestic institute to a worldwide “brand.” The IMA now has a significant presence in China, the Middle East and Europe. I am currently serving on the Board of Compass Charter Schools, an online K-12 school accredited by WASC with a presence in both Northern and Southern California, and a BA-MBA Online College.
• Education: PhD – Berne University (Business and Public Policy); MBA – Pepperdine University (Thesis on Accounting); BA – CSUN
• Licenses: CPA (AK 106054); CMA (23510) and CFM (2067)
• Experience: Controller and Chief Financial Officer as well as University Professor (Associate, Assistant, and Adjunct) -- undergraduate and MBA students
• Industries: Advertising, Construction, Manufacturing, Mining & Chemicals, Consumer Products, Transportation, Hi-Tech, Start-up, Troubled Companies, International, Homebuilding, Property Management, Hospitality, Entertainment
With my background, I can serve on the Audit Committee as the Financial Expert as defined by SEC Regulations and NYSE Rules.
