Chabuka J. Kawesha is a corporate governance practitioner, board advisor
and independent consultant with over 30 years of experience across
financial services, pensions and insurance, audit and risk, government and
regulatory affairs, telecommunications, energy, private sector investment
and public sector policy. His financial-sector experience includesretired roles
with the Bank of Zambia, United Bank of Africa (UBA) Zambia and Great
North Credit. He also served on the Board of the Pensions and Insurance
Authority (PIA) and subsequently as Chairperson of its Board of Regulators,
providing oversight of the pensions and insurance industry. His public-sector
experience includes serving on Government Audit Committees, with
oversight of financial reporting, risk, compliance and institutional
accountability. He is the founding Chairperson of the Lusaka International
Arbitration Centre (LIAC).
He has coached / trained over 40 Boards / institutions in strengthening
governance, strategic oversight, risk, regulatory governance and compliance
effectiveness across financial institutions, regulatory authorities,
Government bodies and private-sector organisations. He has been
recognised with the 2025 Outstanding Director’s Award - Zambia by the
Institute of Directors of Zambia (IoDZ), awarded in 2026, reflecting his
contribution to board leadership, governance and oversight.
He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) -
Telecommunications Management from Atlantic International University,
USA (2009) and an MBA - International Management from Rushmore
University, USA (2004). He is a Fellow - Institute of Directors (IoD) and an
IFC/World Bank trained Corporate Governance Practitioner. He practices
Civil and Commercial Mediation, trained at Stellenbosch University, in South
Africa (2008) and got accreditation as Court Annexed Mediator under the
Judiciary in Zambia, 2009. He is also trained and accredited in Arbitration.
His multi-sectoral and regional perspective is further strengthened by
leadership roles in business and industry institutions across Africa, Vice
President (Southern Africa) of the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (PACCI), and Board Member (Southern Africa) of the Africa Private
Sector Summit (APSS), serving on its continental Executive Board.
