My academic background is in medical sciences healthcare management and politics. I studied at world leading institutions which include Harvard, Oxford, Durham, Mumbai, East China, London, Drexel, and a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship. I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, Member of the Institute of Directors, Member of the Institute of Leadership & Management, Member of the Institute of Healthcare Management, Member of the Institute of Interim Management, Member of the Academy of Medical Educators, Member of the Royal Institute, Member of the Operational Research Society and Member of the Chartered Quality Institute. I am also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Management Consultants and the Worshipful Company of Educators.
I have extensive senior executive and non-executive board level leadership experience within complex organisations. I have proven grasp of both the Nolan principles of Public Life, and the significance of integrity in high level offices. I have experience of contributing to decision-making on sensitive matters where there have been strong and contested views; and in putting forward an independent opinion in a diverse group and working to come to an agreed approach. I have proven ability to consider and review large amounts of information to come to sound evidence-based judgments, taking account of codes of conduct, rules, and organisational context. I have excellent analytical skills combined with strong decision-making skills that have been tested and proven on complex and sensitive issues. I can develop and implement robust governance arrangements and monitor performance, encompassing financial, performance and strategic risk management. I have extensive experience of successfully managing relationships with a range of senior stakeholders, which demonstrates my ability to work in a complex political environment. I have extensive board level experience where I have helped shape successful organisations. I am a Non-Executive Director of Nottingham CityCare Partnership - an award-winning community health services provider, dedicated to improving long-term health and wellbeing - a social enterprise delivering a range of healthcare services tailored to the needs of local people and free at the point of delivery. It is our vision to build healthier communities. (I am the Chair of the PPI and Audit Committees) I am an elected Governor of two NHS Foundation Trusts (Berkshire Healthcare, Medway) - we are a vital part of the NHS Foundation Trust mechanism for local accountability. As a Council, we have key responsibilities such as the appointment of the Chairman and Non-Executive Directors, the selection of external auditors and development of an active membership. I am the Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee at Primary Care Doncaster Ltd - overseeing the business of the Committee, having a particular focus on audit and corporate governance. I am a Non-Executive Director and Trustee of ByeondAutism - a charity dedicated to empowering people with autism to lead fuller lives through positive educational experiences, training for the people who work with them and support for their families and carers - applying the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behaviour (VB) to teach students and arm them with life skills. I am the National NHS Cadets Lead – the NHS and St John Ambulance have joined forces to recruit and train thousands of ‘NHS Cadets’. The cadets will help to improve care for patients while offering a route into health service employment for up to 10,000 young people.
