Deborah England Gray

Deborah Gray is a senior legal executive with a broad and deep background in providing legal services to high growth, start-up companies. Currently, Ms. Gray is General Counsel of The Achievement Network, a private educational foundation that helps over 500 low income schools in 10 states boost student achievement with great teaching that’s grounded in standards, informed by data, and built on the successful practices of educators around the country. She also continues to act as Independent General Counsel for a number of start-up companies. Previously, Ms. Gray was Vice President and General Counsel of Acquia, Inc., a high growth start-up located in Boston. Acquia is an open source technology company that hosts Drupal websites and assists enterprises with their Drupal needs. During Ms. Gray’s two year tenure with Acquia, the company grew from just over 100 employees to nearly 500. Ms. Gray was also the Vice President and General Counsel of Sapient, where she was a member of Sapient%27s executive leadership team and managed the world-wide legal affairs. Ms. Gray was Sapient’s first General Counsel, starting when Sapient was privately held with roughly 100 employees in three offices in the United States. During her six year tenure, the firm grew to more than 3,300 employees in over 18 offices worldwide on five continents. She was part of the executive leadership team that led the company to explosive growth. She provided the legal leadership for its IPO and three subsequent follow-on offerings, numerous acquisitions, and its international expansion. She was also Senior Counsel and Chief Employment Counsel for Charles River Laboratories, a $2 billion publicly traded life sciences counsel. She began her career in the corporate department of WilmerHale (formerly Hale and Dorr) in Boston.
