Mike McDermott

I have been involved with a number of boards in both executive and non-executive roles.
As a non-executive, the qualities I bring to the boardroom are an understanding of the business, in particular its strategy and direction, gained through questioning and challenging but without becoming involved in the day to day management of the business. It is important to be impartial at all times and to remain objectively cynical.

My strengths are in risk and compliance, particularly in the financial services sector, but in my roles as CEO of small UK building societies I have gained skills and expertise in all areas of the business.

I have also been involved in mentoring of a number of start-up businesses and am registered as a mentor with SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative). In these roles I have provided support and guidance and enabled mentees to further their careers and businesses.
